Just To Make You Happy

Chapter 2: Realization

They haven't seen each other for a week almost now, whenever he called Pi to check up on him, he would fail to let the second connection tone pass through until he cut off - yeah, chicken. He admits it himself too.

Kusano sank into his bed, cell phone in his hands flicking the cover open and closed, open and closed. He wasn't wrong for doing this, even though it hurt Yamapi so much yesterday, all he wanted was him to be happy, that's all. He didn't intend to see him cry like that... never, it ached him.

More so, it'd be better to get things clear now than wait till they know that things wouldn't work out, ending up hurting each other even more then. That would suck so bad.

The sound of his doorknob twisting caught his attention. He lifted his head slightly to see Noriko's face, head popping in through the gap.

"What do you want, gaki?" He grumbled, propping his head up on one side.

She didn't have the usual grin she put on, instead, she just sighed, "Yamashita-kun came just now."

Kusano's eyes widened, alert to the note right away, "He came?!"

Noriko just nodded.

"Why--... why didn't you tell me?!"

Noriko narrowed her eyes and stepped into the room, pushing a piece of paper right into his face before turning to leave.

Kusano stared at it for a moment before he gave a puff of nervousness.

Stopping just outside the door, Noriko sighed, "Don't worry, he came with a smile."

Kusano looked at his sister.

"Although really, he looked like he wanted to see you so bad, and he almost cried when I asked him what happened." Noriko scratched the back of her head, "Didn't want to force him to say it, but the look from his eyes kinda deceived him. Which only leads to one thing..."

"This is none of your business Noriko, get out." Kusano scowled, eyes darting away.

Noriko clenched her fists, angrily glaring back at his brother with disappointment, "If you're going to regret then you should never have been the one to make a first move! You don't even appreciate the time you're sharing with him and instead, you go and chicken out, break up with him first before he fuckin' dumps you and---"

"NORIKO!!!" Kusano wanted to cry again, why didn't anyone understand? He just wanted Yamapi to be happy for god's sake. And the only was was to break up, so Pi could happily go back to Jin.

Noriko frowned, "Hiro-nii... every time Yamashita-kun came to visit you when you're in mid-sleep... he would talk to me and Hiromi about how nice you are, how cheery and loving you are towards him... and how much affections he has for you. You totally screwed up big time, you jerk!"

With that, Noriko stepped out of the room and slammed the door shut, coming face to face with Hiromi who heard the whole conversation.

"Noriko-chan... is Hiro nii-chan going to be fine... you were a little harsh there..." She clutched onto her dress worryingly and followed Noriko behind, waiting for her to answer.

"Yeah, he'll should be anyway..." Noriko yawned, "God, that bastard really needs some beating up to do..."

"But Noriko-chan... you won't understand how nii-chan fee---"

Noriko went to the living room and grabbed something from the CD rack, holding it up in front of Hiromi. It was the Summary DVD Kusano had been watching the night before the break up.

"Eh?" Hiromi tilted her head.

"Remember that morning when he woke up on the sofa all grumpy? He didn't put the DVD back into the case until I went to check this morning and I watched it in the afternoon. Then Yamashita-kun came just now... and I understood everything." Noriko quickly summarized everything up for Hiromi who still looked ever so lost, "Basically, nii-chan and Yama-kun, broke up, game over."

"EHH!!!"

Noriko had a sharp tongue, her words could seep deep inside anyone's mind, they were never direct, which leaves people thinking on forever. Kusano was no exception, after all, he was her brother, she would definitely hint better advise than anyone else would - because she understood him.

He kept his eyes fixed onto the paper, before his fingers began to unfold the note, revealing a small passage in neat handwriting, quite recognizable to his eyes too.

Pi...

---

Kusano:

About yesterday, I really don't know what to say. I didn't want to call you, since I was afraid you'd be uncomfortable so I decided to pass on a little note. Whatever the matter is, whether it's my fault or your own choice to break up all of a sudden, or whether anything else has to do with it.

I just want you to know the fact that I still love you, and I don't want to leave you just like that...

Call me when you have time ne?

Love, Pi.

---

"That idiot..." Kusano laughed the frustration away, along with his guiltiness for accusing Pi loving someone else.

Rummaging around his messed-up bed for his cell phone, he hastily dialed Yamapi's number and placed it against his ear, lying down onto the bed while staring out the window.

Yamapi glanced up from the book in his hands, getting up to his bag to grab his phone and froze in his spot when he saw the caller; Hiro-chan.

He slowly moved a thumb to the answer button, flicking it as he neared the phone to his ear, "M-moshi moshi, Kusano...?"

There was a moment of silence from the other side, when finally Yamapi heard a soft cough, "I- um... got your message..." was the abrupt reply.

"Oh..." Yamapi mumbled into it, kneeling down to sit on the large furry carpet next to his bed, "So..."

He was then lost for words.

"I'm sorry." They both said after a while. Both shocked to hear the same from the opposite.

"Y-you can say it first..." Kusano stuttered, a blush creeping up his face as he fiddled with the brim of his t-shirt, heart beat pumping fast as each second past.

"I..." Yamapi started, sucking onto his bottom lip anxiously, "I... I'm sorry for... well, whatever that made you... want to... um, break... up---"

"I'm sorry for denying your love..." Kusano quickly answered, hands moving to grip onto the messy bed sheets.

"... eh?" Was all Pi could afford at the moment.

Okay, take this easy Hironori...

"Well I... always thought you loved someone... else, and not me..." Kusano gulped, "And I realized I was wrong but... I couldn't take the courage to face you again..."

"W-why would I... Kusano---"

"I always thought you loved Jin." Came the straight forward reply.

"J-Jin?!... B-but... we're nothing more than... friends. N' th-that's all..."

"That's what you think... Pi, that guy likes you, can't you see?" Kusano choked on his own breathe.

Yamapi sniffed, leaning his head against the side of his bed, "I... I don't know..."

"Anyway... I called for another reason..."

Yamapi's eyes widened, with hope. Please tell me we're going back together Kusano, please...

"Maybe we should... just, forget about what has happened in the past few months we've been together and... start a new life without each other?..."

Wh-what...?! Instantly, the phone dropped to the carpet. Tears flowed in his eyes and down his face, within seconds he crashed into the blankets, crying into them with anger and depression.

Getting no reply after a while of calling out his name, Kusano cut off and tossed his phone into his bag again, covering himself with the thick sheets, Yamapi, forgive me na...

I just... want you to be happy...

That night, Yamapi didn't get much sleep. He was completely occupied by thoughts of none other than one Kusano Hironori, who's words have just torn right through his heart like a spear.

Kusano...

"I love you... and you only... do you know that?..."
